FarmFlix

From idea to award winning streaming platform - launching the world’s first streaming service for the farming community

A Netflix style product built exclusively for the agricultural community - turning original content into a subscription driven revenue stream.

The Problem

The farming community had no dedicated digital home for video content. Agricultural knowledge, farm stories and practical expertise were scattered across YouTube, social media and word of mouth - with no product built around the specific interests, language and culture of farmers.

FarmFLiX saw the opportunity: a Netflix-style streaming platform built exclusively for agriculture, delivering original farming content in a format users already understood and valued.

But this wasn’t just an idea to launch. It meant bringing an entirely new product and business to market. One that could attract and retain paying members, deliver content reliably and scale as the community grew.

There was no existing platform to iterate on. No competitor to benchmark against. Just a bold idea and the challenge of building something that had never existed before.

What we built

We engineered a complete streaming product - combining a mobile first viewing experience with a custom backend platform to manage content and subscriptions.

The member facing apps were built for iOS and Android, delivering a Netflix style viewing experience designed around how farmers actually consume content: on phones and tablets, often in low connectivity environments, across a wide range of devices. Content discovery, playback and membership management were all built with simplicity and familiarity at the core.

Behind the apps, we built a web based platform that gave the FarmFLiX team full control over their content library - uploading, organising and publishing new episodes.

The result was a complete, production ready product - not just an app, but the entire operational foundation for a new subscription business.

Why it worked

The product worked because it was built for a clearly defined audience - not a broad market. Every design and engineering decision was shaped around the needs of the farming community.

That focus influenced everything, from the content itself, to how it was delivered and consumed, turning a bold idea into a platform with a loyal, paying membership base.

But focus alone wasn’t enough. The product also had to work as a business from day one - managing subscriptions, delivering content reliably and giving the FarmFLiX team the tools to operate and grow without technical dependency. Building those operational foundations into the product from the start is what allowed it to scale.

The result was recognised with the app winning ‘Video Streaming App of the Year’ at the UK App Awards - but more importantly, it created something new: a product that defined a category and built a community around it.
